Get ready for another season of Dwyane Wade, who finally revealed that he will be back with the Heat for “One Last Dance.”
Dwyane Wade will return for one more season with the Miami Heat, the 12-time NBA All-Star announced in an emotional video on his personal Twitter. The video runs for just under 10 minutes and features an emotional Wade talking about his career, his outlook and much more.
“It’s been a tough summer,” Wade says in the video. “This has been a summer for me that — not a lot of athletes want to see this time come, when you have to decide whether you want to continue the game that you love, continue to play the game that you’ve played, for me, for 31 years, since I was five. Or if you want to walk away, if you want to do something else, if you want to clear a path for the next generation to come. There’s a lot of emotions that go with that.”
Wade has been in the NBA since he was a first-round pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, and he’ll make it to 16 seasons with this announcement. He’s a three-time NBA champion and was the NBA FinalsMVP in 2006, so there isn’t much left to prove.
“Let’s have some joy through this last season,” Wade said at the end of his video. “Let’s push this young team over the hump. And let’s write our own story to the end of this career together.”
He returned to the Heat last season after a couple years away from the team that drafted him, joining them for the final 21 games of the season. He averaged 22.2 minutes, 12.0 points, 3.1 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. At 36 years old he’s out of his prime, and he recognizes that, but clearly feels he still has more to offer in the NBA, at least for another season.
